noontime zarzuela

i was peacefully watching noontime television over lunch earlier today, flipping through channels for good tv entertainment when i came upon this pathetic scene. lo and behold, willie revillame, that noontime comedian (specially his unintentional guffaws and blunders) host of wowowee, was pouring his heart out (again??) on nationwide broadcast and pathetically forcing himself to cry! oh no, i said to myself, ano na naman ‘to? not over lunch! there he was on center stage, talking straight to the camera, admonishing comedian joey de leon about the latter’s comments on the wilyonaryo controversy. willie is so fond of this kind of grandstanding, making paawa on live television in front of millions! i still remember the 'gusto ko nang mag-resign pero di ko kayo kayang iwanan' episode or the 'hindi ko kayang gawin ang inaakusa nila sa akin (harassment)' episode, etc. -- all these complete with tears (??) and with the cameras panning to the audience and his co-hosts in tears (or at least trying desperately to shed tears). this is zarzuela as wille revillame knows it! and as usual, abs-cbn milked this scene up to its last drop of ratings fluid! Diyos kong maawain! first of all, joey de leon is a comedian, and his statements should not be taken seriously. watching his shows, we get a lot of these side comments from him about personalities and issues. that’s part and parcel of his style of comedy and we as pinoys should learn to be good sports and accept jokes like these. watching leno and letterman on american television, tons of jokes about issues and personalities are dished out daily, about george bush, paris hilton, britney spears, hillary clinton, etc. that are mas grabe than what joey is even capable of. yet, no one sues or makes a big deal out of them because they are comments made in jest and should not be taken seriously! even if it’s true…………….. though joey really didn't name names in his comment (though obviously referring to wowowee), the controversial incident in that show last week really raises doubts about the integrity of the game: why were there two numbers in that colored ring (0 & 2 for the 2M)? was it for a switcheroo in case a contestant picks that ring? or was it just an honest mistake?so, willie, grow up and learn to face the music. you made a big blunder on national tv with that wilyonaryo controversy. accept the consequences and be prepared to be the butt of jokes because of it. kagagawan mo yan! if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!***note: this can be compared to malu fernandez’s comments on pinoy ofws in her article that caused a lot of controversy. she claimed, in her defense, that it was a joke. but she is not a comedian, nobody laughed, it was taken seriously and ofws were offended..
